The Antarctic Fire Angels

The Antarctic Fire Angels

It was great to be invited by Geoff Long of Portsmouth University’s Sport Science Laboratories to meet up over Zoom with most the ‘Antarctic Fire Angels‘.

Having been involved in the planning, team selections and equipment development for a host of other projects, we were  able to provide some humble opinions and advice and to play the Devil’s Advocate on some of the current plans to test the thinking behind them.

The Angels are psychologically well equipped for their planned crossing of Antarctica. As active firefighters across three different counties, they have an established teamwork system, know the importance of looking after kit and everything having its place and the ability to be continually making dynamic risk assessments.  They are taking their staged preparation seriously and are just off to Norway for two weeks of practical training.  We look forward to being involved further whenever we can help.
