Novel Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Project

Despite the large number of tested products on the market, there are times when a unique and novel solution is required.

Working with partners in Risk Management and Finite Element Analysis a detailed project was undertaken to design and model a protective wall that would form part of the facia for a UK based Headquarters building. The specific geometry and limitations of this site posed some interesting challenges.

After a Dynamic Vehicle Assessment that included live speed runs with a 7.2t truck, the wall was designed to meet the requirements of IWA 14.

The vehicle FEA model allowed the team to investigate the effects of different internal wall reinforcement and balance the transmitted forces with the wall’s deflection.
