Defeating the Beast – Developing a Unit for the Safe Containment of Disruptor Cartridges

EOD Disruptor Cartridge

A discussion at the DSEI defence show in London posed the question on the possibility of adapting our Detsafe technology to safely contain an array of EOD disruptor cartridges, so that a working quantity could be moved safely and with no damaging effects outside of the unit in the event of something firing. Detonators, although sensitive and the producers of explosive shock, do not produce that much gas. Disruptor cartridges are all about generating a lot of gaseous product very quickly.

The challenge was all about the largest of the cartridges we were to consider, the ABL3000, used in a recoilless disruptor. This was a challenge indeed. Throughout the process, we wanted to do just enough to achieve the objective without baking in unnecessary, additional complexity and cost. Over the three visits to the test facility we learned a lot and achieved the objective.
